Soccer!

On Wednesday night we went to the Soccer! Most fans around the world call the round ball sport ‘football’, but in Australia they call it ‘soccer’ so people don’t get it confused with Aussie Rules Football. English Premier League side Everton were in Melbourne and played a special match against a brand new Aussie team called Melbourne Heart! Everton won 2 - 0…which is great because I was wearing my blue jumper - their team color!! (Did you know in Oz they spell ‘color’ with a ‘u’!! as in ‘colour’). Anyhoo.. we had sushi before the game and spotted this funny sign - ‘slippy’!!! which of course should be ‘slippery’!.

hope you guys have are having a great holiday!

Jimmy ;)

Today we were back at the MCG, but this time not for a sports match, but a Sport Summit… all about digital media! We learnt lots about Facebook, Twitter, blogging, websites etc.. and a guy who knows a lot about this stuff.. in fact he’s in charge of it all at the Phoenix Suns basketball team, Jeramie McPeek, was at the conference!!! It was great to hear all the interesting things he had to say and he even gave away some tops signed by the players! He said it’s very hot back home in Arizona at the moment.. but here it’s freezing!!! We are wearing gloves every day and drinking lots of hot chocolate :)

take care

MCG!

Here we are at the MCG! That stands for Melbourne Cricket Ground. It has just been ranked 15th in a list of the world’s 30 most important sports venues. It was described as the spiritual home of Australian sport! While it may have the word ‘cricket’ in the title.. tons of other sports are played at the MCG. We watched an Aussie rules football game which was great fun! There are 18 teams in the comp and we watched the Melbourne Demons take on the Carlton Blues. Catherine goes for a team called the Geelong Cats and she says when we go to one of their games we can all dress up as cats!!…can’t wait! The Cats are the best in the comp and they’re top of the ladder… so we’ve decided to go for them too.

Hope you had a super weekend!

markets!

This morning we went to the largest open air market in the Southern Hemisphere - the Queen Victoria Market! It’s 17 acres and is in the middle of Melbourne - tons of tourists go there to try the delicious food. I tasted so many cheeses, dips, jams…mmmMM! Jimmy wanted to buy a live chicken for a pet!!! We tried a fruit called a Mangosteen and it was the super yummiest fruit ever!! By the time we left I was soooo full!!

I took a pic near Catherine’s house of the river which runs through Melbourne - The Yarra River. The water isn’t clean enough to drink or swim in, but there are always lots of boats on it.

Right next to the Yarra, in the centre of the city, is a big old railway station called Flinders Street Station. Have you seen the television series, The Pacific produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks? - one of the spots they filmed at was Flinders Street Station!! It’s a very busy place - every weekday over 110,000 people and 1500 trains pass through the station.

Tomorrow we are going to have our nails painted with Catherine and her friend Alicia who is a news reporter on the television.  Jimmy of course is not going to have his nails done - he is going to read the paper! He has become very interested in reading about what is going on in the world.. especially with the World Cup Soccer Tournament about to get underway in South Africa!!.. very exciting!

What have you guys been up to? I hear it’s really hot!!! As you guys head into summer.. we’re getting ready for a freezing cold winter!

take care

Melbourne!

Guess what, we’ve moved states! We’re now living in the capital city of Victoria which is called Melbourne. Melbourne is a lot bigger than Adelaide. Adelaide has a population of just over one million people, while Melbourne has nearly four million. We packed up Catherine’s car and drove about nine hours to get here - sang the whole way!!! When we fly it only takes one hour.

We have been having sooooo much fun working on a brand new show with Catherine. It’s all about football, but not the type we have at home in the US.. this one is Aussie rules football. We got to go to a big game and sit front row.. check out our pic!!! Sooo exciting!! It’s a tradition to eat meat pies and hot chips at the game - not very healthy, but awesome for a treat! Aussie rules is very fast paced and the ball is a little different in shape.

We are living right near one of the most famous stadiums in oz - the MCG. There are lots of sporting arenas nearby…. in fact a few weeks ago Melbourne was voted the sporting capital of the world!!!!! A brand new soccer stadium opened up across the road just a few days ago and it has super bright lights which attract bats at night time!! They stay well away, but are cool to watch.

The weather is generally cooler here and it rains a lot, but yesterday the weather was so nice we went to the beach. Check out the pics of us swimming and burying ourselves in the sand ahahahha.. we ended up with sand in our mouths!!! yuck!!!!

We also went to a famous fun park called Luna Park. The roller-coaster was aaaawesome!!! but jimmy’s hat flew off!!.. don’t worry, we found it and then got some fairy floss.

Catherine has finished on the footy show for a while so we’ve been helping her put together a showreel - that’s a video which demonstrates the work she has done. You guys can check it out if you like.. we will post a link for you.

Also it was Catherine’s birthday the other day and we secretly helped her housemate make a birthday cake as a surprise. It had a “little brats” candle…ahahahah.. do they have ‘little brats’ in the US??

tons of love and speak soon!
